Mimouna Celebration

The Mimouna is celebrated on the last day of Passover; this is a tradition among the Jews of Morocco. On this day it is custom to hold an “open house” and invite all your friend, Family and neighbors.
In the Jewish religion there are different traditions / customs. The Sephardic and allowed to eat certain food (rice) and the Ashkenazy’s are not. So this day makes up for the whole week where you go to your friends house for dinner due to the different restrictions.

The Food on the table should be mostly sweet to emphasize the sweetness of hope in other areas of life.
Some of the food on the table will include:

  1. Cherry tomato preserves
  2. Eggplant preserves
  3. Almonds
  4. Dates
  5. Honey
  6. Mint Tea
And the Star of the evening will be the “Mupleta”, its kind of Blintz which is made a few minutes before serving.  You spread butter and honey on it and roll it.

My Mom is hosting this feast every year, but since she is in Israel and we are here, this special day is reserved for my Sister. For the last few years we go to her house and enjoy these wonderful flavors.
My next Post will not be mine but my Sister’s

Have a Happy Holiday all
